Purpose of the Innovation Ecosystem Development Program The purpose of the Innovation Ecosystem Development Program is to spur the development of programs that directly support innovation and entrepreneurship in MTI’s seven targeted technology sectors .
Organizations not currently based in Maine are eligible to apply; however, all grant funds must be utilized for Maine-based projects and programs that benefit entrepreneurs in MTI’s seven technology sectors. Applicants shall demonstrate how their proposed project/program will provide a catalyst for enhancing Maine’s innovation economy and supporting Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) as they scale and grow in Maine and beyond.
The ideal applicant has a demonstrated track record of impact, backed by metrics. Additional consideration is given to applicants that strategically partner with other organizations to expand their strength and reach within sectors and across Maine. We encourage collaborative efforts amongst organizations on their proposed projects/programs.
We recommend that any particular organization serve as the primary applicant for only one Innovation Ecosystem Development Program application; however, in the case of a multi-departmental non-profit research institution, a distinct department / division may be considered as a unique applicant, at MTI’s discretion.
MTI will approve no more than 1 award to any particular organization (inclusive of distinct departments) with this current funding opportunity. Grants may be approved for multi-year projects/programs. MTI reserves the right to annually tranche multi-year awards based on project/program performance.
Innovation Ecosystem Development Program funds must be utilized within 3 years of award announcements.
