Innovative Tinnitus Research Grants Program

The Innovative Tinnitus Research Grants Program is a funding initiative from the American Tinnitus Association (ATA) that supports one- or two-year research grants aimed at advancing scientific understanding of tinnitus and improving patient quality of life.

The program offers three distinct grant mechanisms: standard research grants ($25,000–$200,000) for established projects, seed grants for novel ideas lacking preliminary evidence, and targeted grants for specific research priorities. ATA seed grants enable investigators to generate data to support future funding applications.

Eligible applicants include researchers at universities, academic medical centers, and nonprofit institutions worldwide. The most recent deadline was April 24, 2026, and fundamental, clinical, and translational research approaches are all considered.

Apply for ATA Grants | American Tinnitus Association Innovative Tinnitus Research Grants Program ATA Grants support one- or two-year research grants aimed at contributing substantively to the scientific understanding of tinnitus and improving patient care and quality of life for those affected by tinnitus.

ATA also offers seed grants to support novel ideas that are not yet supported by preliminary evidence, including fundamental and clinical research, to advance scientific understanding of tinnitus, its treatment, and possible cures. ATA seed grants enable Principal Investigators to obtain quality data that can be leveraged for future grant submissions.

This year we are introducing three distinct research grant mechanisms tailored to specific stages and types of tinnitus research, replacing the prior single-tier structure and representing a meaningful increase in maximum award levels: Foundational Research Grant: Supports investigation into the fundamental mechanisms of tinnitus and the identification of biological targets with translational potential.

Up to $100,000/year in direct costs for up to two years. Translational/Clinical Research Grant: Supports the collection of original data in human participants, including the development of new biomarkers and novel interventions for tinnitus relief. Up to $100,000/year in direct costs for up to two years.

U.S. Pilot Data Grant: Supports junior investigators acquiring pilot data or experienced researchers building a tinnitus research portfolio. Up to $25,000 in direct costs for one year. Together, these mechanisms allow researchers to pursue more ambitious and impactful projects than ever before.

In 2026, ATA is also launching a dedicated Postdoctoral Fellowship Program to support the training and professional development of the next generation of tinnitus researchers and clinicians in the United States. These mentored training awards enable fellows to build expertise in tinnitus research or clinical care during formative stages of their careers.

ATA fellowships provide critical support that helps promising individuals establish themselves in the field, creating a pipeline of investigators and clinicians who will advance understanding of tinnitus and improve patient care for decades to come. Graduate Research Fellowship: Provides $40,000 for one year to support doctoral students conducting tinnitus-focused dissertation research under the mentorship of established investigators.

Music Audiology Fellowship: Provides $20,000 for one year to support audiologists and audiology students pursuing specialized clinical training aimed at improving hearing healthcare for music-exposed individuals. Applications for the 2026 Grant Program and Fellowship Program are open as of March 9, 2026 , and will close on April 24, 2026 . Awards will support projects beginning July 1, 2026.
