David Lowell Field Camp Scholarship recipient. Since its inception, GSA has dedicated itself to enriching the geosciences by cultivating and supporting aspiring scientists. One of the most important ways GSA does this is through fieldwork opportunities, which the Foundation proudly supports through its J.
David Lowell Field Camp Scholarship fund. This umbrella under which field camp scholarship programs reside was established through the generosity of Dr. David Lowell, renowned field-based mineral exploration geologist. For many students, the financial cost of pursuing fieldwork can be a burden.

Jack Kleinman Memorial Fund for Volcano Research is a grant from the Geological Society of America (GSA) Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), that recognizes early-career scientists conducting high-impact volcanology research. Awards of up to $5,000 support field-focused volcanic studies including geologic, geochemical, geophysical, and hazards investigations, with a preference for research on U.S. volcanoes such as the Cascades, Aleutian Arc, Hawaii, or Yellowstone.
