The trust consists of five trustees, appointed by the Mahoning County Probate Judge, who meet throughout the year to review eligible requests and make recommendations to the Mahoning County Probate Court for the ultimate distribution of the charitable assets.

The Trust of James Joseph McFarlin Mahoning County Probate Court Case # 1982 TS 137 This trust was created in 1982 by the Last Will and Testament of James McFarlin. It provides in part that 12. 5% of the net annual income of the Trust is to assist in the college education of a young man selected by the clergy of Rose Catholic Church of Girard and a young man selected by the superintendent of the public schools of Girard.

Each young man selected will receive 6. 5% of the net annual income of the trust applied toward his four-year college education. Seidel and has been in existence since 1988. It states that the assets are to be disbursed for charitable, educational and public uses in Mahoning County to organizations for which contributions are deductible for income tax purposes under the IRS Code of the United States. The trust consists of three trustees.

Seefred Trust was established in 2005, and its purpose is to award scholarships for college students, ages 18 through 25, who suffer from Juvenile Diabetes and are pursuing a college bachelor’s degree.

The trust consist of three trustees, who are appointed by the Mahoning County Probate Judge. The current trustees are Karen Leetch, Sharmon Simon and Judy Welsh. Preference is given to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana Counties.

All applicants must be Ohio residents between the age of 18 and 25 years of age diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes and currently enrolled in a standard curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited junior college, college or university. Current high school students are not eligible; applicants must be already enrolled in a qualifying school.

Awards are based upon academic promise, personal statement, recommendations and financial need. Each recipient may be awarded varying sums for higher education expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board during the school academic year.
