Jana Trust Fund Grant is sponsored by Jana Trust Fund. This grant supports early career biologists in sub-Saharan Africa with projects focused on the conservation of endangered mammals, particularly elephants. Funding is available for research and related expenses, including travel to conferences.

These provide financial resources for non-profit organisations and early-career scientists and conservationists to carry out conservation work related to mammals, especially forest elephants, in Sub-Saharan Africa. Education projects will also be considered, as well as travel costs for presentation of the project at a conference, or participation at a workshop or training programme.

Be an early-career biologist or conservationist Conduct work in sub-Saharan Africa Focus on endangered mammals (priority for elephant-related work) • Projects must demonstrate clear conservation and applied research value Funding is intended for ongoing or pilot projects Field research and conservation activities Essential field equipment Travel to present findings at conferences Participation in relevant workshops or training The fund will not support : Thesis writing or production Retrospective costs or debt Purely theoretical research without conservation application Duration: Short-term / project-specific (no fixed duration) Funder deadline: 31 August 2026 • UCT Intention to submit deadline: Please complete intention-to-submit form by 31 July 2026 • UCT eRA: Approval via UCT’s electronic Research Administrat ion (eRA) system is REQUIRED prior to submission to the funder.
