Grant Application - John S. Dunn Foundation Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center The John S. Dunn Foundation made a multiyear commitment to mental health, establishing the John S.

Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center here in Houston. Because of this multiyear commitment, we have exceeded our annual budget for mental health grants for the foreseeable future. It is also important to know the Foundation discourages multiyear grant commitment requests.

Please read below grant guidelines for eligibility prior to completely an application. Grants are made to non-profit, tax-exempt organizations only. Organizations applying for grants must meet criteria established by the United States Internal Revenue Service described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1968 and be classified as other than a private foundation under the terms of Section 509(a).

Please note that the Foundation does not support Type III Section 509(a)(3) supporting organizations. Grant requests are limited to programs and projects within the greater Houston area. No grants are made to individuals.

The Foundation’s grants are generally approved for healthcare education, including nursing programs, healthcare clinics for the underserved, mental health programs, and medical research in the greater Houston area. The Foundation does support nursing scholarships, medical research endowments and chairs. The Foundation does not give scholarships directly to individuals.

Generally, the Foundation typically does not give multiyear grants; however, matching grants and collaboration are encouraged. The Dunn Foundation accepts online grant applications only. There are no deadlines for making a request to the Dunn Foundation and requests are accepted throughout the year.

The Board of Trustees meets monthly and the process of reviewing and making decisions may take a few weeks. The Foundation makes grants for one-year periods only, and an organization should apply once during a calendar year. If a grant request is declined, the applying organization must wait until the following year before submitting a new request.

The Dunn Foundation does not make grants to businesses or individuals. The Dunn Foundation does not make grants to support capital campaigns. The Dunn Foundation does not make grants for construction and/or furnishings.

The Dunn Foundation does not make grants to support advocacy or to other foundations who then make grants to third-party organizations. Name and address of nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, including a copy of the IRS determination letter.

Specific amount requested for your project or program. A summary page describing your need explaining how the grant money will be used and what you expect to accomplish. A budget for your project or program, including the total cost.

The total amount you have raised for the project or program. The reason for seeking outside support. Copy of your organization’s current annual budget.

Copy of the organization’s latest audited financials. List of the members of your Board of Directors. List of the officers of your organization.
