Joseph James Morelli was a young man, diagnosed with severe dyslexia as a freshman in high school, who graduated from Park City High School and was pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Montana State University, when he was tragically killed in a car accident in 2014. Our mission is to honor Joseph’s spirit.
Through the awarding of scholarships, we recognize students, who like Joseph struggle with dyslexia, and empower them to believe in themselves.

After its second successful year, the Mentorship Program has become an essential element in the support the Foundation offers our awardees. The program pairs college freshmen with peer mentors to help them navigate the challenges that college presents, particularly for students with learning differences.
Mentors are current or former Morelli Foundation scholarship recipients, either upperclassmen or recent graduates, who are hand-picked by us and trained by our partner, SuperPower Consulting, to equip mentees with the skills they need to confidently succeed in all aspects of their lives.

Morelli Foundation Founder, Dr. Barbara Wirostko, Reflects on Legacy in KPCW Interview In a recent interview with KPCW’s Local News Hour, Dr. Barbara Wirostko, founder of the Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation, shared heartfelt reflections on the Important Announcement: Transition of Joseph’s Legacy to Montana State University Dear Friends of the Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation, I am writing to share an important development in the evolution of our scholarship program, started The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation transfers to Montana State University.
The Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation was established in 2014 to honor Joseph Morelli and support students with dyslexia who aspire to careers in STEM. Joseph was an MSU student when he tragically passed in a car accident during a camping trip.
Ensuring some good came from this tragedy, the foundation has awarded nearly $900,000 in 496 scholarships to 250 students across 44 states , creating a national impact and fostering a community of resilience, advocacy, and opportunity.
Montana State University (MSU) , a public land grant and top tier research institution, known for its commitment to student success and innovation, will now serve as the new home for the foundation’s scholarship and student support programs. This transition ensures the long-term sustainability and infrastructure needed to reach and support even more students.
The partnership provides new momentum to MSU’s public land grant mission – framing access and success as a central part of our work to welcome more students, local and national, into our university community.
