Kahu ʻĀina (Natural Resource Conservation Program) - Hawaii Tourism Authority Kahu ʻĀina (Natural Resource Conservation Program) Kahu ʻĀina (Natural Resource Conservation Program) The Kahu ʻĀina program provides funding support to responsible community-based entities with an emphasis on ʻāina-Kānaka (land-human) relationships and knowledge that manage, preserve, and regenerate Hawaiʻi's natural resources and environment.
In Fiscal Year 2026, HTA's Kahu ʻĀina program invested $489,000 to support 11 community-based organizations statewide to implement conservation projects that take place from July 2025 to June 2026. HTA has partnered with Kilohana Collective, a division of the Hawaiian Council, to administer the program through ʻUmeke Powered by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.
Effective with the July 2026 to December 2026 project cycle, the Kahu ʻĀina program will be integrated into the Kūkulu Ola program and Community Enrichment Program to streamline operations and enhance overall program efficiency. The application period for the July 2026 to December 2026 project cycle for the Kūkulu Ola program and Community Enrichment Program opens April 9, 2026 with proposals due by May 7, 2026.

The application period for the January 2027 to December 2027 project cycle is estimated to open in September 2026.
