Karibu Foundation's Grant Program for Africa (often known as the Karibu New Realities Grant) is sponsored by Karibu Foundation. This grant program focuses on initiatives that support community empowerment, civic engagement, and the work of non-governmental and civil society organizations at local, national, and international levels within Africa.

Apply for a grant (grantmaking models) - Karibu Foundation Karibu is transitioning to a permanent participatory grantmaking model for a large part of our grants (“Africa Grants”). We are currently working to implement the new models into our structures, and thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition in our systems.

Karibu has three primary grantmaking models, all which aim to meet the various needs of our partner networks in their bold efforts for a more just world. Below you will find important information that you should read carefully before submitting a Note of Interest via our Grant Management System (GMS).

Asia, Latin-America, Middle East, and Global Grant Karibu’s grantmaking program for groups in Asia, Latin-America, Middle East, and global processes. This grant program supports activities and movements that are anchored in Asia, Latin-America, Middle East, or globally (with a global South focus). As a general rule, movements in the global North cannot apply.

This grant program is currently only open to previous / current grantees. Not received a grant from Karibu before / new potential partner? Please note that Karibu currently does not have any open application calls for new grantee partnerships for this program, and it is only for existing partners.

You can, however, submit a “ note of interest ” in our system and potentially be invited to submit an application for a limited number of “new partnership grants” – where applications are accepted by invitation only. The program its own routines, decision-making processes, and eligibility requirements. This grant program is African-led and co-designed, and only groups (social movements, associations, organizations, cooperatives, collectives, and/or networks) that are based in Africa can apply. Please note that Karibu currently has an open call to submit a Notes of Interest.

The Core Group will invite the most relevant projects to send in a full application . You can submit a “ Note of Interest ” in our system until the 10th of July 2026. DEADLINES FOR SENDING IN A NOTE OF INTEREST: Small grants for urgent responses and unexpected needs.

Karibu has a limited budget to support urgent action / quick response for our current partner network. Please reach out at post@karibu. no for grant-making procedures.
