TxDOT offers several programs that provide funding to local communities, other government agencies and select groups to aid in the development of transportation projects and services.
Conditional Grant Program Annually: Application deadline is March 1 Description: College tuition grant program for students attending an accredited four-year Texas public college or university as a full-time student in an approved field of study disadvantaged students pursuing a degree in an approved field of study Responsibility: Human Resources Division Elderly Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities Varies: Districts have their own deadlines.
Description: Used to improve accessibility and mobility for the elderly and disabled. Eligible: Elderly and disabled individuals Responsibility: Public Transportation Division Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community Achievement Awards Annually: Recipients are chosen every spring. Description : Awarded to organizations with grassroots environmental programs.
Funding comes from money set aside by TxDOT for landscaping needs. Eligible : All Texas communities Responsibility: Travel Division Learning Information Network and Collaboration Program Annually: Dates announced in September. Description : Businesses are mentored by TxDOT and taught how to do business with the department.
Eligible : Small and minority-owned businesses Responsibility: General Services Division On-the-Job Training Supportive Services (OJT/SS) Program Letters of intent are due April 5, 2012 Statements of work are due April 10, 2012. Note: Must be submitted electronically Instructions and Guidelines Description: An FHWA program that helps develop job training and apprenticeship programs using Federal assisted funds.
Aimed at increasing representation of disadvantaged individuals, minorities and women in the heavy highway construction industry. Eligible: Consultants, universities or organizations involved in the transportation industry. Responsibility: Office of Civil Rights Public Transportation Grants (Coordinated Call) Annually: Program calls go out in summer.
Description : Provides grants for several federally-funded programs that support public transportation. Eligible : Eligibility differs based on grant Responsibility: Public Transportation Division Varies: Future program calls dependent on the re-authorization of Federal Transportation Bill. Description : Infrastructure or non-infrastructure projects that improve the safety of children in grades K-8 that walk or bike to school.
Eligible : Infrastructure: state agencies and political subdivisions. Non-Infrastructure: state agencies; political subdivisions; schools and school districts; non and for-profit organizations. Responsibility: Traffic Operations Division Summer Employment Program Annually: Application deadline is May 31.
Description : High school and college students are given on-the-job training for maintenance, engineering and technical positions. Eligible : High school and college students Responsibility: Human Resources Division Annually: Date of call and application deadline varies.
(512) 416-3167 Jim Hollis Description : Helps local entities reduce the number and severity Eligible : State and local governments; educational institutions; non-profit organizations Responsibility: Traffic Operations Division Transportation Enhancement Program Varies: A program call is scheduled Sept. 14, 2012. Submission deadline is Nov.
16, 2012. Description : Used for non-traditional transportation projects that must include one of 12 defined categories. Up to 80 percent of project cost is reimbursed.
