Lend a Hand Fund | The Joyce Foundation Year the fund was established Number of organizations supported In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the disproportionate impact on Chicago communities facing persistent structural inequities, the Foundation established the Lend a Hand Fund to provide support to front-line community organizations.
In 2020, the Lend a Hand Fund supported organizations providing immediate direct relief to communities hardest hit by COVID-19. Since 2021, the Fund has pivoted to support recovery efforts with a continued focus on community health. The community health discipline focuses on social determinants that contribute to disparities and inequities that impact people’s health, well-being, and quality of life.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services , some examples are: Safe housing, transportation, and neighborhoods Racism, discrimination, and violence Education, job opportunities, and income Access to nutritious foods and physical activity opportunities Language and literacy skills The focus area for each grant cycle is determined by the needs expressed by the community and we are grateful to our community partners who work collaboratively with us to direct funding.
