LG Guggenheim Award is sponsored by LG and Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The LG Guggenheim Award annually recognizes one artist for groundbreaking achievements in technology-based art.

It is part of a five-year initiative designed to research, honor, and promote artists working at the intersection of art and technology.

Application Guidelines — Guggenheim Fellowship — Guggenheim Fellowships: Supporting Artists, Scholars, & Scientists The Guggenheim Fellowship is a mid-career award supporting the work of individuals who have made notable contributions to more than fifty fields across the arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and interdisciplinary areas.

Each year, roughly 200 Fellows are selected through a rigorous competition that assesses both past accomplishments and future plans. Recent success rates have averaged around 5%. The 2026 United States and Canada competition is now closed.

The 2027 competition will open for applications in late summer 2026.

Advisers’ identities are confidential, guaranteeing a fair and meticulous review and ensuring that the focus stays squarely on the merit and originality of the work submitted. Frequently Asked Questions My work is interdisciplinary or fits into multiple fields of study. How should I decide which field to choose on my application? When you fill out your application, you will be invited to choose the one field that you deem most representative of your proposed project.

If so, when and how do I submit them? Work examples are required in certain fields. If this applies to your field, the application portal will make that clear.

Work examples should be uploaded to the application portal or postmarked two weeks after the application portal closes. (For the 2027 application cycle, this date is September 29, 2026.) How do you handle letters of reference?

During the application process, you will be prompted to submit the names and contact information of a minimum of three (and up to four) references that have agreed to write letters on your behalf. Please be sure to contact your references well in advance and confirm their preferred email addresses before completing the “Reference” section of your application.

Once your application is submitted, reference letter requests will be automatically sent to the addresses you provided. Your references will be prompted to upload their letters there. How many rounds does the Fellowship competition have?

Our competition is not organized in terms of rounds. All applications that meet our eligibility requirements are sent to readers or jurors for full consideration. When is the deadline to apply?

Is the deadline final? The deadline to apply for the 2027 application is September 15, 2026. Late applications are not accepted.

When will I find out if I received a Fellowship? For the 2027 application cycle, applicants will find out if they have received a Fellowship in late April. If I've already received a Fellowship, can I apply again?

Sorry, no. Additional Fellowships are not granted. Although in the early years of the Foundation, Fellows were sometimes granted additional Fellowships or renewals, the Foundation has discontinued that practice. By signing up, you agree to receive emails from Guggenheim Fellowship.
