is a resident-driven mini-grant program that strengthens neighborhoods by supporting local beautification, revitalization, and community-building projects. Rooted in sustainability and climate resilience, the program empowers residents to bring their vision for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Newark to life through reimbursement-based grants of up to $5,000 .
Since 2019, the Office of Sustainability, Resilience and Community Transformation has proudly led the Love Your Block, Newark! program. In 2025, Mayor Ras J.
Baraka highlighted the program’s transformative impact during his State of the City address, stating: “These are people who love their block and love their city. They don’t just pull out their phones and videotape—they organize their neighbors and get to work, making all our lives better. Not from City Hall, but from their own neighborhoods.

welcomes a wide range of projects, including but not limited to: Projects led by block, neighborhood, or tenant associations Projects located on Newark Housing Authority properties Innovative and pilot projects We are particularly interested in projects that advance sustainability and climate resilience across the City of Newark, including initiatives that: Create or enhance green spaces Increase tree canopy coverage Address flooding and stormwater challenges Reduce disproportionate environmental harms Improve air and soil quality Support waste reduction and management Together, Love Your Block, Newark!
