Experimental Aquaculture Lease Application | Department of Marine Resources Maine Aquaculture Leases and LPAs "Experimental" (Limited Purpose) Lease Applications and Forms Standard Lease Applications and Forms Limited-Purpose Aquaculture (LPA) License Applications and Forms Aquaculture LPA and Lease Requirements Public Participation in Aquaculture Municipal Participation in Aquaculture Resources for Growers and Applicants Experimental Aquaculture Lease Application An "experimental" lease permits the lease holder to culture finfish, shellfish, and/or marine algae on up to 4 acres for commercial or scientific purposes.
An experimental lease has a duration of 3 years. Experimental leases for commercial purposes cannot be renewed. Experimental leases for scientific purposes are renewable.

Pre-Application Requirements for Experimental Lease Applications Please note that the first step in the experimental lease application process is attending a pre-application meeting with the Department and the municipality (usually represented by the harbormaster). Please contact DMRaquaculture@maine. gov to arrange this meeting.
