Margaret Warren and Grace Lemley Animal Welfare Grant — Black Hills Area Community Foundation Margaret Warren and Grace Lemley Animal Welfare Grant In the spirit of Margaret Warren’s love for animals, the grant supports animal welfare organizations in the Black Hills. In memory of Margaret Lemley Warren Margaret “Maggie” Lemley Warren was born September 16, 1916, and passed away August 26, 1998, at the age of 81.
Maggie devoted her life to saving and caring for animals whether it was her ranch animals, feeding the raccoons at night, feeding birds or caring for abused animals. It is in the spirit of Maggie’s love of animals that The Margaret Warren & Grace Lemley Animal Welfare Grant was created. This grant is designed to honor the legacy of Maggie’s passion and support Black Hills Area animal welfare organizations.
In honor of Margaret Lemley Warren’s passion for animals, the annual Grant supports animal welfare organizations in the Black Hills area. The maximum grant amount is $5,000. Applicants must be an IRS 501(c)(3) public charity, school, government entity or religious organization.
Requested support must be for organizations or activities that take place within the following counties: Butte, Custer, Fall River, Lawrence, Meade, Oglala Lakota, and Pennington counties. BHACF supports a wide variety of proposals, including: Support for ongoing or new programs/projects. Support for capacity building, operational expenses, and small capital improvements.
Only shelters with a no-kill policy will be considered. Funding will not support religious activity, political activity, fundraisers or benefits, debt retirement or organizations working to primarily influence legislation.
Supported organizations and activities may not discriminate against any individual or group based on race, gender, gender expression, age, disability, religion, ethnic or national origin, or otherwise legally protected groups. Funding for multi-year projects. Funding for Capital Campaigns.
When reviewing applications, the Margaret Warren and Grace Lemley Animal Welfare Grants Committee will consider the following: The ability of the organization or project to improve animal welfare and meet identified needs in the Black Hills region. How the organization or project responds to a clear and compelling community need. The ability of the organization to sustain the stated effort beyond the grant period.
