"Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 Grant Program for AI, Robotics, and Industry 4.0 Technology Adoption by Small and Mid-Sized Manufacturers" is currently closed and not accepting applications.
Maryland Manufacturing 4. 0 is one of the few AI funding programs that pays manufacturers to actually deploy the technology rather than to research it, which makes it unusually accessible to companies with no research infrastructure.
The Maryland Department of Commerce funds implementation projects covering artificial intelligence for continuous improvement, advanced sensor integration, big data and analytics systems, cloud computing and cybersecurity, embedded software applications, ERP and data analytics software, robots and autonomous equipment for workflow automation, systems integration projects, and - importantly - employee training and implementation consulting, so the human side of an AI deployment is a fundable cost rather than an unreimbursed overhead.
Grants run from $25,000 to $500,000, but the effective ceiling depends on company size: small manufacturers with 3 to 50 employees have 75% of project costs covered against a 25% match, while mid-sized manufacturers with 51 to 250 employees are covered at 50% against a 50% match.
Applicants must be an existing Maryland business in good standing with a NAICS 31-33 manufacturing code, in operation at least two years, compliant with federal and state OSHA requirements, and able to demonstrate both implementation capability and an Industry 4. 0 commitment strategy.
One procedural requirement is easy to miss and takes time to satisfy: a completed CESMII Technology Assessment is required as part of the application, so companies should start that assessment well before the window closes. The FY2026 application window runs from 3 August 2026 at 9:00 AM through 31 August 2026 at 5:00 PM.

In January 2026, DOE Policy Flash PF-2026-30 wiped out every 15% and 10% indirect cost cap the administration had imposed in 2025 — because H.R. 6938 ordered it to. The same law froze indirect policy at NSF, Commerce and NASA. But OMB's sweeping new grants rule quietly reopens the fight through the back door. Here is what changed, what money recipients can claw back, and how to protect your indirect recovery going forward.
Read articleHopkins expanded its Pivot and Bridge program from $12.5M to $60M annually, raised the per-award cap to $250K, and dropped the divisional match requirement. Maryland chipped in $8.5M. The structure tells you where private bridge-funding is heading.
Read articleOn June 1, Maryland's Department of Housing and Community Development announced $73.3 million in FY2027 awards across six State Revitalization Programs supporting 247 projects in disinvested communities. $50.7 million — 69% of the total — went to Just Communities, geographic areas the state has designated for equity-focused investment. Another $18.6 million went to ENOUGH-eligible census tracts where childhood poverty is concentrated. The new round opens June 22 with an August 6 deadline. The Maryland model establishes a state-led framework for equity-targeted funding that operates outside the federal DEI restrictions the OMB Uniform Guidance rewrite will impose on federal grants beginning October 1, 2026.
