> Department of Neighborhoods > Matching Grant Program Department of Neighborhoods We are improving Houston neighborhoods by providing a dollar-for-dollar matching grant reimbursement between $500 to $5,000 to help fund beautification and improvement projects.
This program is administered through the City of Houston Department of Neighborhoods Eligible organizations must meet the following criteria: Applicants must be a neighborhood-based organization and/or civic club incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) or 501 (c) (4) non-profit organization through the State of Texas.
If the applying neighborhood-based organization is not 501 (c) (3) or 501 (c) (4), they must secure a 501 (c) (3) or 501 (c) (4) organization to partner with for this project. Applicant organizations must represent a specific geographic area located in the Houston city limits. Applicants must Identify how the organization will fund and support the project in the future.
*Political organizations and individuals are not eligible. * The first step is to register for the online Information Session and watch the video to get important information about the application process. Before a completed application can be submitted, applicants must first submit an Intent to Apply form by Monday, August 31, 2026, 11:59 p.
m . Applicants are encouraged to submit the intent to apply as soon as possible. The sooner the intent to apply is submitted, the sooner the approval process may be completed.
The Intent to Apply form requires the signature of the Department of Neighborhoods program manager. After you submit your intent to apply, the Department of Neighborhoods will respond by email informing you if the program is selected for a matching grant by the first week of September. The deadline to submit an application packet is Sunday, November 1, 2026, 11:59 p.
m. Projects must be completed and all of the documents required by the matching grant must be submitted by Monday, May 31, 2027. Any projects that do not submit the necessary paperwork in time may not be eligible for matching grant funds.
