Mathematical Sciences Program (MSP) - Research Grants is sponsored by National Security Agency (NSA). NSA's Mathematical Sciences Program offers grant funding for eligible faculty members to support mathematics research in the United States.

NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY (NSA) The Mathematical Sciences Program supports research for undergraduate programs, conferences and workshops in five subject areas: Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Number Theory, Probability and Statistics. The award for conferences and workshops will not exceed $25,000 and, to avoid endorsement or the appearance thereof, approaches to cryptography proposals will not be accepted.

The Special Situation category is for infrastructure development projects and for events that do not fall within the typical research conference format. Beneficiaries of these grants (including students, speakers and other participants) must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY - SU Mathematics _These funding amounts do not reflect the award amounts that are displayed on USASpending.

No Credentials or Documentation are required. 2 CFR 200, Subpart E - Cost Principles applies to this program. All those receiving support from our grants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Investigators must be an employee of a U.S. college or university. The principal investigator and all graduate students must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S.. This grant is intended for mathematical researchers and educators seeking to advance mathematical expertise among student groups.

Beneficiary eligibility is the same as applicant eligibility. This will benefit mathematical researchers and those who are in the process of acquiring the skills necessary to do research in the the mathematical sciences. Beneficiaries are those who meet the criteria above and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents as well as their students who are U.

S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.. Summer salary, professional travel, publishing costs, undergraduate support, graduate student support, postdoctoral support, and conference support.

No more than two summer months support based upon the type of grant that is awarded. No released time from teaching during the regular academic year; not tuition payments. Sep 01, 2025 to Oct 15, 2025 Each year, proposals are accepted from September 1st through October 15th for awards in the following fiscal year.

No submissions received after the October 15th closing date will be accepted. Preapplication coordination is not applicable. Environmental impact information is not required for this program.

This program is excluded from coverage under E. O. 12372.

2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards applies to this program. Criteria is dependent upon the type of proposal received and will be outlined in the Evaluation Criteria of the Grant Solicitation. Individual research, conference/meeting, or undergraduate research experience.

Primarily criteria for individual research are the qualifications of the principal investigator and quality of the research proposed. Cost is considered when deciding upon funding e.g., up to two months of summer salary and /or student support, depending on the research grant type. The government reserves the right to partially fund any successful proposal based upon availability of funds.

Proposals are evaluated for the intellectual merit and broad impact of the proposed activity by panels of NSA mathematicians. NSA determines which proposals will receive support together with the amount of that support and notifies our decisions in a timely fashion to all who submitted a proposal.

Funds will be provided in a timely manner contingent upon them being appropriated and authorized by Congress, so no expenditures on these grants are allowed until the grant award document is in place. The Agency Grants Officer coordinates with the performing organization for the effective award and administration of the grant. Approval/Disapproval time frame ranges generally from 90 to 120 days.

Options for a second year of support may be proposed,and if accepted, grants with these options may be exercised at the sole discretion of the government. In all other situations, only no-cost extensions will be allowed when work is not completed. Funds will remain.
