Matriarch Community Grant — OakLuv Foundation Celebrating the hard work, perseverance, and leadership of women in the Oakland community who are dedicated to empowering and creating positive change within their families and communities. The Matriarch Community Grant honors and celebrates the dedication and strong leadership of exceptional mothers and female leaders in Oakland.

We believe matriarchs are a powerful force for positive change. By recognizing and supporting these inspiring women, we aim to build a more equitable community where their vital contributions are truly valued. In 2023, after 15 years of dedicated community support during the holiday season, The OakLuv Foundation was ready to embark on a new journey to spread love to Oakland communities year-round through purposeful campaigns.

Over the years, OakLuv witnessed firsthand the incredible resilience and leadership of Matriarchs that created positive impacts within their families and communities. The Matriarch Community Grant was founded to celebrate Matriarchy as a powerful force for positive change and to recognize a job that often goes unnoticed.

The inaugural Matriarch Community Grant was open to all Matriarch leaders, without regard of their immigration status, and who met (2) requirements. Applicants had to reside in specific Oakland ZIP codes and be at least 18 years of age. Nominations were also accepted.

A community panel of (3) individuals reviewed applications and identified the inaugural recipients. OakLuv granted the the funds on Christmas Eve and is currently working on a video piece for recipients that have agreed to be highlighted. The purpose of the highlight is to shed light on the stories of these remarkable women.

Additionally, OakLuv is putting together an event that will celebrate all five recipients, matriarchy, and the intention to do so for years to come! Your support is crucial in making this vision a reality. Every donation to the Matriarch Community Grant directly empowers Matriarch leaders, supports community initiatives, and contributes to sustainable impact in Oakland.

Alongside The Matriarch Community Grant recipients, OakLuv is honoring other Matriarchs in the Community through a monthly video spotlight series featured across OakLuv's media platforms. We believe in recognizing Matriarchy year-round and remain dedicated to creating a platform where Matriarchal leaders can amplify their stories and experiences.

Business Developmment Manager at The Unity Council For over a decade, Maria has been a part of the OakLuv family. Without asking, she lent a helping hand during the first OakLuv toy drive on 38th Avenue. Maria was also instrumental in the toy drive moving to the Fruitvale Plaza and evolving in what is known today as the F ruitvale Posada .

Holding countless leadership roles and mentoring youth while balancing her own family commitments. A true matriarch, Ms. Shirley was instrumental in the implementation of this program and is a founding mother to OakLuv.
