Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. Expands Robotics Opportunities for Students - RECF Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. Expands Robotics Opportunities for Students Since 2022, the Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. has partnered with the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF) to bring hands-on, classroom-based learning to life through the Factory Automation Competition and local grant making.
This collaboration is equipping educators and inspiring students to build critical skills that drive future workforce success. Thanks to its generous support in 2025, 18 new teams have been introduced across Texas and Alabama, expanding opportunities for many students. A local coach said, “The grant was much appreciated.
We expanded the number of teams and doubled the number of girls in our program last year. We look forward to more growth. ” These new teams represent more than just robots.
They symbolize curiosity, teamwork, and the promise of brighter futures in STEM academics and careers. A coach from California stated that starting a robotics program wouldn’t have been possible without financial support. “That funding was essential,” the coach shared.
“Grants, including funding from the Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. helped cover essential equipment and competition costs, which are critical to a brand-new program with limited resources. ” The impact of this partnership goes beyond competition.
By investing in robotics education, the Mazda Foundation (USA), Inc. is helping students develop problem-solving, collaboration, and technical skills while having fun that will serve them for life. This collaboration demonstrates the power of partnerships in robotics education, as it helps students learn and strengthens schools.
2025-2026 Signature Event Updates An Event Partner wanting to apply to host a Signature Event must have hosted events for at least 2 seasons prior to applying. Signature Events must use the officially branded award banners for the Excellence Award and Tournament/Teamwork Champions Award. When hanging field skirts the VEX Robotics logo/brand name can not be covered up on the competition fields.
VEX V5 Robotics Competition Signature Events may have regional capacity and max per organization restrictions lifted 8 weeks before the event if the event is not full (similar to the process already in place for VEX IQ Robotics Competition Signature Events). Minimum pit size reduced to 8’x 8’ instead of 10’x10’.
Beginning in the 2025-2026 season, the REC Foundation will collect $10 instead of $5 per team registration on all Signature Events. This is to help offset travel costs for REC Foundation staff to support these larger events.
2025-2026 Signature Event Application Reminders Existing Signature Events only need to complete the Final Application (due by March 31, 2025) New Signature Event concepts will need to complete the Initial Proposal by January 31, 2025 and if approved, complete the Final Application by March 31, 2025. The Robotics Grant Program is a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) that funds school-based robotics programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. Awarded through a competitive application process, the program provides up to $3,500 to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) in Alabama. Applicants must be public school systems submitting on behalf of schools with K–12 students. The grant supports the purchase of robotics equipment and program development aligned with AMSTI guidelines. Applications are submitted online through the AMSTI Robotics Grant portal. The Fiscal Year 2026 application deadline was September 30, 2025. Questions should be directed to robotics@amsti.org.
