Medical Eye Care Program (Preserving or Improving your Vision)

Medical Eye Care Program (Preserving or Improving your Vision) is sponsored by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS). This program aims to prevent blindness and restore vision for North Carolina residents at risk of or experiencing vision loss due to retinal disorders, cataracts, or glaucoma.

NC DHHS: Medical Eye Care Program The Medical Eye Care Program uses every available resource to prevent blindness and restore vision in people who are at risk for losing sight or have lost sight. The three major causes of blindness are: The Medical Eye Care Program delivers preventative and corrective services.

We may also offer the following services depending on the availability of funds: Eye Surgery/Treatment: If you are a North Carolina resident and do not qualify for Medicaid, we might be able to assist you with eye-related surgery/ treatment. Eligibility is determined by a Social Worker for the Blind . Prior approval for emergency treatment and services will only be given by the state Consulting Ophthalmologist.

Eye-Related Medications: If you are a North Carolina resident, do not qualify for Medicaid and have no other resources to assist you, our Medical Eye Care Program might be able to provide medication assistance. Eligibility is determined by the Social Worker for the Blind in your county and approved by the Nursing Eye Care Consultant.

Any applicant/recipient who is dissatisfied with an action or service delivered under the Medical Eye Care Program has the right to request a conference. DSB-7219: Application for a Conference The services provided by the Medical Eye Care Program are offered to the citizens of North Carolina who meet the income scale for this service.
