gov contact center: Self-service knowledge base System for award management (SAM): The Medical Student Education Program provides grants for public medical schools to expand or support education for medical students preparing to become physicians in states with primary care provider shortages.
Required activities include: Increase the number of medical students and/or provide student supports for students who commit to primary care service in rural, tribal, and other areas with primary care provider shortages. Student supports can include academic, financial, and social.
Develop and implement new and/or expanded nutrition and chronic disease curricula, including evidence-based dietary intervention in chronic disease prevention and management, incorporating a defined set of clinical, didactic, and community-based training activities Ensure that at least 1 or more of the clinical sites for medical students are in a primary care setting such as a Teaching Health Center or other community-based setting that provides primary care training.
These settings include but are not limited to: Rural Health Clinics (RHCs); Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs); community mental health centers (CMHCs); and health centers operated by the Indian Health Service (IHS), Tribes, or tribal organizations, or by Urban Develop and support partnerships with community-based organizations in rural, tribal, and other communities experiencing the greatest primary care physician shortages to support pathway programs, training, and support for students who are most likely to return to practice in these communities Eligible applicants are accredited public medical schools Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah Award range: $1,000,000 - $1,625,000 per Project period: 4 years, 7 months Estimated number of awards: 8 Estimated total program funding: A 1% cash or in-kind matching contribution is required.
