MedTech Venture Prototyping Commercialization Process Intellectual Property 101 NYU Innovators’ “Bill of Rights” Therapeutics Alliances (Innovators) Therapeutics Alliances Request for Proposals MedTech Venture Prototyping Technology Acceleration & Commercialization Awards NYU Langone Health Venture Fund Biomedical Entrepreneurship Program Biomedical Entrepreneurship Program Courses NYU MedTech Venture Prototyping Fund is an intramural funding opportunity designed to encourage and promote the advancement of medical devices, diagnostic, and digital health technologies owned by NYU that have the potential for commercialization, through prototype development and evaluation.
Projects that involve NYU technologies that have already been licensed to a commercial entity will not be considered. Track 1: Accelerated Commercialization Proposals Track 1 proposals support technologies in advanced stages of development, aiming to achieve significant milestones closer to commercialization.
Applicants may request up to a maximum budget of $75,000, which may include costs for materials, salaries (non-PI) and contracted third-party services. As an internal funding opportunity, there will be no indirect costs charged. Please note that principal investigator salaries are not permitted.
Project plans may include costs of external consultants or companies to supplement existing expertise. Track 2: Early Concept and Prototyping Proposals Track 2 proposals should focus on the early prototype or proof-of-concept stage to validate feasibility and potential market value. These proposals may be based on ideas in the conceptual stage, such as a conceptual “napkin sketch.
” Proposed work should demonstrate the potential for addressing unmet needs in the market. Applicants may request up to a maximum budget of $25,000 with no indirect costs charged, which may include costs for materials and contracted third-party services. Please note that salaries are not supported under this track.
Application Deadline: June 26, 2026 Funding Start Date: September 1, 2026 Funding End Date: August 31, 2027 Principal Investigators (PIs) applying must meet the following criteria: Primary Appointment: Must hold a primary appointment at the School of Medicine. Technology Ownership: Projects must involve NYU-owned technologies that are NOT currently licensed to commercial partners.
An investigator may submit a one-page proposal via email to MVPFund@ nyulangone. org by June 26, 2026. Your email subject line must be read: “MedTech Venture Prototyping Fund Proposal- Track [].
” Shortlisted Track 1 applications may be invited to submit a detailed proposal or give a presentation. Required Proposal Components: Provide a description of the innovation, emphasizing how it works, its novelty, and competitive advantages compared to current approaches.
Explain the unmet need that your technology addresses, this can include details of the market size, adoption costs, and any supporting data that highlights why this innovation is important. Describe the current stage of development, including how the proposed work will carry the technology forward towards commercialization. Focus on how these efforts will transform the target market or create impactful solutions.
Prototype Development Plan Outline milestones for prototype creation and evaluation, and detail how the commercialization plan will attract follow-up support. Present a detailed breakdown of fund allocation and justification.
NOTE: For undisclosed technologies, please complete an innovation disclosure form before applying The Technology Opportunities & Ventures (TOV) office will assist in selecting and managing any external contractors required for project execution. TOV can also provide support in identifying and engaging with external contractors for work such as prototype design and development, animal studies, and other specialized research activities.
