25, 2025 The Hawaii Community Foundation, via its Mental and Behavioral Health Stigma-Reduction Messaging Grants Program, awarded $282,500 in seed grants to 17 nonprofits statewide to tackle mental and behavioral health stigmas. The grants provide funding and tools to help organizations develop and share messages aimed at reducing stigma around accessing mental health services, according to a news release.
The grantees help a wide range of underserved populations, including Native Hawaiians, Micronesians/Pacific Islanders, Filipinos, parents with young children, LGBTQIA+, and others. The grants are part of HCF’s three-year Mental and Behavioral Health Strategy, which works to reduce stigma and enhance access to services via integration of improved education, screening, intervention, and treatment within health systems.
“At HCF, we envision a future where mental and behavioral health is embraced as an essential part of our collective well-being,” said Gregg Kishaba, HCF Health and Wellness program director. “By elevating community voices and honoring cultural strengths, we are dismantling stigma, expanding access to care, and transforming systems so every person in Hawaii has equitable opportunities to thrive.
