The Towbes Foundation is a family foundation established by Michael and Gail Towbes in 1980. We seek to strengthen the communities of Santa Barbara County by partnering with local nonprofits through grantmaking. Since its founding, The Towbes Foundation has granted over 25 million dollars to more than 400 organizations on the Central Coast.
While The Towbes Foundation traditionally supported a broad array of nonprofits, we now have a particular focus on mental health, targeting children, youth, and families in the areas of prevention and early intervention, expanded access to services, and effective treatment.
Grant Cycles – Interest Areas – Funding Sources The Towbes Foundation has three grant cycles per year focused on three areas of mental health and well-being, enabling us to make a more meaningful impact on our community with our available resources.
The Towbes Foundation concentrates on three primary areas of Mental Health and a continuum of wellness: Prevention & Early Intervention: Children, youth, and families in vulnerable circumstances are identified early and supported with authentic connections, enriching opportunities, and the resources they need to overcome life’s challenges.
Expanded Access: Children, youth, and families are able to access the mental health services they need. Effective Treatment: Children, youth, and families facing mental wellness challenges are engaged in high-quality, direct therapeutic services that measurably reduce distress and/or improve well-being.
