Mentored Research Career Development Awards is sponsored by Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation. Provides supplemental funding to vascular surgeon scientists holding NIH or AHRQ mentored research career development awards to advance their research careers toward independence.

Mentored Research Career Development Awards | Society for Vascular Surgery Mentored Research Career Development Awards The SVS Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Awards Program provides supplemental funding to vascular surgeon scientists who have been awarded a mentored research career development award from National Institutes of Health (NIH) or the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

The SVS Foundation (SVSF) offers the Mentored Research Career Development Awards Program to support the research career development of clinically trained vascular surgeons who have the potential to develop into productive, independent investigators in the fields of biomedical or behavioral research, including translational research, or patient-oriented research.

The SVSF awards program provides supplemental financial support for the following NIH or AHRQ award programs: K08, K23, NHBLI K01, AHRQ K08 The candidate must be an Active or Early Active Member of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and a Fellow or Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

The candidate must have a MD degree or its equivalent, have completed postgraduate clinical training in vascular surgery, must identify a mentor with extensive research experience, and meet the NIH or AHRQ requirements for percent of full-time professional effort conducting research and research career development.

SVSF provides an award of $50,000 a year for up to five years or an award of $50,000 per year for up to three years to the institution of the awardee to be used for salary support or for expenses related to the NIH or AHRQ research project. The funds may not be used for travel. Funding each year is contingent upon the applicant’s continued funding by NIH or AHRQ.

The SVS Foundation does not pay indirect costs to the institution of the awardee. The American College of Surgeons (ACS) co-sponsors a select number of Mentored Research Career Development Awards each year. Eligible NIH and AHRQ Awards, Deadlines and Application Process Applications should conform to the guidelines published for the eligible NIH or AHRQ award .

Applications are accepted by SVS Foundation on any of the NIH or AHRQ Award Deadlines . In spring of each year, applications who have been awarded funding by NIH or AHRQ will receive a secondary review by the SVS Research Council and, if applicable, the ACS Scholarships Committee. Awardees are notified in May of each year. The applicant is required to submit an annual progress report to the SVS Foundation: SVSFoundation@vascularsociety.
