Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is sponsored by National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). This award supports mentored research career development experiences for individuals who are not yet independent. It is intended to provide an intensive, mentored research experience leading to an independent research career.

The purpose of this program is to provide support and protected time for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Some NIH Institutes use the K01for individuals who propose to train in a new field or have had a hiatus in their research career.
