The Llama Impact Innovation Awards are the regional track and a far more realistic target for most organisations: up to USD 35,000 plus matched in-kind advertising credits, scoped to Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Asia Pacific and Latin America, and focused on education, public services and economic development.
Meta has also run geography-specific initiatives, including regional accelerator tracks in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa and a partnership with Data Science Africa aimed at Africa-based startups and researchers working in health, education and agriculture.
The binding constraint across all tracks is technical rather than thematic: the work must be built on Llama models, so a team already committed to a closed-weights provider is effectively out. The corollary is that this is one of the few sizeable funding lines where an existing open-weights deployment is itself the strongest part of the application.
Round timing is irregular and announced per-region rather than on a fixed annual calendar, so the practical approach is to monitor the Llama developer site rather than plan around a deadline.
