Michigan City Education Foundation (MCEF) Small Grants is sponsored by Michigan City Education Foundation. This program offers grants to K-8 teachers in schools serving Michigan City to develop creative programs and turn them into classroom activities that promote learning in any academic area or life skills.

Michigan City Teacher Grants The three grant programs listed below follow the same grant cycle (applications open in August 2026).

Michigan City Education Foundation (MCEF) Small Grants The Michigan City Education Foundation is designed to give teachers a chance to develop creative programs and turn them into classroom activities that promote real learning for children. This program accepts applications from teachers in K-8 schools serving Michigan City for grants up to $500 for hands-on or virtual activities in any academic area or life skills .

These schools include: Barker Middle School, Coolspring Elementary School, Edgewood Elementary School, Joy Elementary School, Knapp Elementary School, Krueger Middle School, Lake Hills STEM Magnet School, Marsh Elementary School, Notre Dame Catholic School, Pine Magnet School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Queen of All Saints Catholic School, Springfield Elementary School and St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic School. Carmen Memorial Grants The Barbara A. Carmen Memorial Endowment Fund was established to encourage elementary teacher empowerment through small grants. This fund is dedicated to the memory of Barbara A.

Carmen, a former MCAS elementary teacher, who devoted her career to the pursuit of excellence in education. May the fruit of her dedication live on through the efforts of others. This program accepts applications from educators in K-8 schools serving Michigan City for grants up to $400 for items that will enrich curriculum or enhance a teacher’s ability to meet student needs.

MCAS Teacher Innovation Grants The Teacher Innovation Fund for Michigan City Area Schools is designed to promote innovation and creativity making teaching more fun for professionals and much more effective in reaching and inspiring our students. Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins and former Michigan City Mayor Chuck Oberlie provided the idea and the seed money for the Teacher Innovation Fund from their own personal funds.

This program accepts application from Michigan City High School and La Porte County Career and Technical Education/A. K. Smith Career Center teachers/professionals for grants up to $400 for equipment, supplies, tools for special programs or for ideas to enrich curriculum and enhance each professional’s ability to meet his or her students’ needs Additional Teacher Grants Michelle T.

Stonewall Special Education Grant The Michelle T. Stonewall Memorial Special Education Fund provides support for La Porte County Special Education teachers with grants for equipment, supplies, tools for special programs or for ideas to enrich curriculum and enhance each professional’s ability to meet their student’s needs.

Field trips that enhance the quality of life for special needs students along with transportation may be considered. Support for educators seeking continuing education or certifications for special education may be considered. Applications will be accepted from special education teachers in La Porte County public and private schools.

Grant awards are typically no more than $1,000. The award will be paid by Unity Foundation directly to the school. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funding is allocated.

J. Robert & Marjorie Miller Teacher Advancement Grant The J. Robert and Marjorie Miller Teacher Advancement Award promotes teacher excellence through professional enrichment, renewal and revitalization leading to more engaged teaching and more engaged students within the La Porte Community School Corporation.

The Fund provides grants for teachers to pursue advanced education opportunities not normally provided by the corporation, such as summer programs, projects, internships and site visits, to learn new skills or improve existing ones. This program accepts applications from licensed school teachers employed by the La Porte Community School Corporation. Grant awards are traditionally around $1,000.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funding is expended. Janet (Collings) Drayton Teacher Innovation Grant Janet (Collings) Drayton Teacher Innovation Fund is a grant program for licensed teachers employed by the La Porte Community School Corporation and teaching at Kingsbury Elementary School.

The grants are intended to be utilized for classroom projects that support math and science learning and field trips that teach the history of La Porte County. Lilly Endowment, Inc. Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program The is one of Lilly Endowment’s longest standing programs and began as a way to help Indiana elementary and secondary educators renew their commitment to teaching.
