VELA — The Miles Foundation Board of Directors & Staff The Meaning Behind Our Logo The Miles Foundation partners with VELA Education Fund to Expand Educational Opportunity in Tarrant County VELA is a national nonprofit fund that launched in 2020. VELA invests in everyday entrepreneurs – students, parents, teachers, and community leaders – who are meeting learners’ and families’ needs with nontraditional approaches to education.
These models include homeschool co-ops, microschools, after-school programs, and many, many more. VELA does not dictate solutions to its grantees. Instead, VELA trusts grantees to identify what their communities need and how they can best meet those needs.
To date, VELA has awarded more than 1,300 grants totaling over $11 million to support nontraditional education models. Grant recipients are students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. They reside in all 50 states, plus Washington, D.
C. , Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Micro Grants in Tarrant County Micro grants will be awarded to early-stage everyday entrepreneurs who are innovating outside the traditional education system.
The application is intentionally simple and streamlined to facilitate a fast and flexible funding approach that enables entrepreneurs to quickly put their ideas into practice to meet learners’ and families’ immediate needs.
