Micron STEM Opportunity Fund | The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia Micron STEM Opportunity Fund Grants to promote STEM education The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has partnered with Micron to strengthen STEM learning through efforts to build knowledge, systems, and capacity in Northern Virginia by ensuring underserved students have access to high-quality STEM learning experiences.

Nonprofits & Schools: Learn More STEM programs serving rising 6th–12th grade students in Northern Virginia are invited to apply! Nonprofits and educational institutions are eligible.

To align with Micron's semiconductor career pathways and workforce needs, the Micron STEM Fund prioritizes qualified nonprofit and academic institution programs that: Focus on Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computing & Technology Integration: Programs centered on engineering, robotics, computer science, applied math, physics, chemistry, AI, data science, or semiconductor‑aligned content are strongly encouraged.

Programs must incorporate AI-related activities, tools, or lessons 3. Integrate Measurement, Evaluation, Learning: Applications that include a well-defined Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) approach will be prioritized. Programs that are primarily focused on Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Healthcare, Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing, or Medical Education will not receive priority under this fund.

This approach ensures exposure to underrepresented STEM fields and supports pathways aligned with high-demand technology careers. Preference will be given to applicants that serve students in Title I schools. Programs can also support teachers and collaboration with students’ families.

General operating support grants of $15,000 or $30,000 will be awarded. Help shape the next generation of innovators. The grant application closed as of 5pm on March 10, 2026.

You will be instructed to set up an organizational profile before applying. If your organization has applied in the past, check with other staff members to get access to the organization profile already established. It contains grant history and past applications.

Please do not set up a new profile unless you are sure your organization has not applied previously. Public K-12 schools and higher education institutions located in Northern Virginia are eligible to apply.

501(c)(3) organizations providing charitable or educational services in Northern Virginia (defined as the areas within Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park) can apply for funding. Local, state and federal government entities are not eligible to apply. Organizations are limited to one application per grant cycle.

In 2026, hundreds of middle and high school students will gain those experiences through hands-on STEM programs made possible by a strategic partnership between the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia (CFNOVA) and the Micron Foundation .

Through the Micron STEM Opportunity Fund , CFNOVA and Micron are investing $190,000 in eight nonprofit and educational organizations delivering high-quality, career-connected STEM learning to students in grades 6–12.

These programs emphasize engineering and physical sciences, responsible technology and AI learning, and strong measurement practices—ensuring students are not only learning new skills, but building confidence, relevance, and momentum toward future careers.
