MIFA Rent and Mortgage Assistance (Memphis, TN) is sponsored by Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA). MIFA provides rent and mortgage assistance to individuals and families in Memphis, TN. Applicants must show evidence of overdue rent or mortgage payments and documentation of a crisis or loss of household income in the last 90 days.

Click here if you are a senior in need of home-delivered meals Home-delivered meal recipients are Shelby County seniors (age 60 and over) who are nutritionally at-risk and frail, homebound, or disabled.

Congregate meal recipients are Shelby County residents over age 60 or under 60 and disabled. To be screened for eligibility for Meals on Wheels, call the Aging Commission of the Mid-South at (901) 222-4111 . To apply for congregate meals, complete an application in person at the site nearest you.

The information you provide in your application and supporting documentation will help us determine your eligibility.

Be a resident of Shelby County Be able to document a recent (within the past 90 days) crisis that has affected your ability to pay your bills, such as: Medical emergency (FMLA or off under doctor's care) Job loss (must be accompanied by proof of approved unemployment benefits) Have not received financial assistance from MIFA in the past 12 months; preference is given to first-time applicants Valid driver's license or state ID Documentation of crisis or loss in the past 90 days (examples: unemployment approval letter, medical crisis documentation, income reduction notice) Lease or mortgage statement Must be in applicant's name Must indicate past due balance You may be asked by your case worker to submit additional documents to support your application What to Expect When You Apply Visit the application link below during open hours.

MIFA offers a range of services to support families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Complete the online application (scroll down for link), and a staff member will call you the same day (or next business day) to assess your needs.

Many households can be stabilized through temporary shelter placement while they search for housing, mediation with family members or friends, information about community resources, or referrals to other partners. These options can help families “self-resolve” without placement in housing.

If you are homeless and eligible for housing services, you may choose to have your information entered by a MIFA staff member into the Coordinated Entry System (CES), which is the entry point into the community’s homeless services system managed by Community Alliance for the Homeless. When housing becomes available, eligible individuals and families are prioritized and matched with those opportunities.

Some families may be matched with MIFA’s Rapid Rehousing program, while others may be matched with another agency. Housing placement will require documents like ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of income, or verification of homelessness or disability. Program staff with matched organizations can help families obtain these documents.

However, it's also important to understand that being entered into the Coordinated Entry System does not guarantee housing or provide a timeline for when you may be selected for housing.
