Mindfulness, Resilience, and Well-being Supports for Children, Youth, and Parents – CYBHI Mindfulness, Resilience, and Well-being Supports for Children, Youth, and Parents In partnership with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is distributing $65 million among California’s 58 County Office of Education (COEs) to promote local wellness, mindfulness, resilience and well-being programs that support teachers and students in TK-12 schools.
An additional $10 million is being utilized to help scale parent and family support programs across the state. The grants aim to support the adoption and equitable access to evidence-based mindfulness, resilience and well-being tools, resources, and programs for teachers, youth, parents and families.
To succeed in the overall mission of providing localized Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) support, this work is centered on the needs of young people to promote their well-being and tackle ongoing inequities.
Behavioral Health Ecosystem Infrastructure Workforce Training and Capacity Support schools, districts and COEs with the adoption of evidence-based tools, resources, and programs that support equitable access to mental health and wellness for students, families and staff. Create new mindfulness-centered learning modules, facilitator guides and workbooks, and provide stipends to facilitate engagement in module-based professional learning.
Provide COEs with access to high-quality data that provides real-time, actionable information about student well-being while also measuring the impact of, and informing the improvement of SEL, mindfulness and wellness programming in schools. Completed 57 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with individual counties. Executed subcontract with Kelvin, which will provide a SEL pulse tool to California schools at no cost to the school.
Finalized the UC Berkeley SEL Ambassadors’ Course for the 24-25 school year. Awarded grants to scale parent and family support programs. Executed contract with SCOE.
Principals and School Leaders (virtual). Inaugural 2024 SEL & Wellness Summit with an attendance of 750+ Supported Frontline Staff through Specialized Trainings. Statewide SEL Community of Practice meeting.
School-based Clinicians, Counselors and Classroom Teachers (virtual). Expanded Learning Staff (virtual). Monthly Community of Practice Collaboratives (virtual).
SCOE began distributing grant funds to each COE to implement SEL, Mindfulness and Wellness Programming in Schools, including supporting schools, districts, and COEs by adopting evidence-based tools, resources, and programs that support equitable access to mental health and wellness for students, families, and staff.
