Mini Grant Program Service Animal Funding Guidelines is sponsored by Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority. The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority supports funding requests for service animals in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This includes psychiatric service dogs (PSDs) trained to perform tasks that mitigate an individual's psychiatric disability.

Behavioral Health - Alaska Mental Health Trust The Trust awards mini grants with an annual limit of one award per beneficiary depending upon need. Mini grants are only awarded to an agency on behalf of an individual.
This grant program provides Trust beneficiaries with a broad range of equipment, supplies and services to improve their quality of life, increase independent functioning and help them attain and maintain healthy and productive lifestyles.
These may include, but are not limited to, therapeutic devices, access to special health care, and other supplies or services that might improve an individual’s ability to function in the community and become self-sufficient. The Trust no longer wants or requires documentation regarding the diagnosis or other Protected Health Information (PHI) regarding the applicant individual.
Do not include documentation such as diagnosis forms, letters of support, or medical records to the application. Cost estimates will still be required to be attached to all mini grant requests. More information about documentation can be found in the grant guidelines.
UPDATE: In July 2026, the Behavioral Health Mini Grant program will enter a planned three-month transition period to implement several improvements. The basic aspects of the program will not be changing. While these updates will result in a more responsive and streamlined program, there will be a temporary pause in accepting new applications.
Mini grant applications will not be accepted for the July 15, August 15, or September 15 application periods. The Mini Grant program will reopen to new applications on September 16, 2026, with the first collection deadline on October 15, 2026. Click here for more information about program updates.
People with mental illness People with chronic alcoholism and/or other substance related disorders People with a traumatic head injury resulting in permanent brain injury Who can apply: Applications will be accepted from organizations working with Trust beneficiaries. The role of the applicant organization is to serve as a fiscal agent in administering grant funds.
Applications received directly from individuals or their family members will not be considered.
