Mini Grants

Mini Grants is a grant from The Health Foundation (Wilkes County, NC) that funds community-driven projects promoting healthy eating, active living, and mental health and resiliency tailored to local needs. Awards range from $250 to $2,500 per project, reflecting the program's focus on grassroots, homegrown initiatives. Application periods are April 3–May 8 and August 3–September 10.

Eligible applicants are nonprofit or governmental entities operating in Wilkes County, North Carolina, with projects addressing social determinants of health.

Grants - The Health Foundation We have a few different grant opportunities available to meet the various needs of the organizations we support. All applications are available through the same portal. Challenge Grants: Challenge Grants are designed to help your organization encourage support from individuals in order to help you build a sustainable, comprehensive fundraising program.

If yours is a mature, robust fundraising effort, please contact us before applying. Competitive awards are made to organizations whose programs and services meet an identified health care need in our community. You must also have a fundraising event or plan designed to secure unrestricted support for your organization.

Application period: January 5th – March 13th, 2026. Healthy Futures : Healthy Futures grants provide support for building projects, equipment purchases, general program support, expansion of program services, and training. You must complete a Letter of Interest in order to receive access to the full application.

Healthy Futures grants are accepted on a rolling basis. For a timely decision, please submit your request prior to one of these dates in 2026: January 23rd, April 20th, July 20th, or October 9th. Mini Grants: The Mini Grant is designed to create healthy eating, active living, and/or mental health/resiliency projects that are tailored to a community’s needs.

Where we live, learn, work, play and pray influence our health. Partner with us to create homegrown projects to help our community feel better and live healthier! Awards range from $250–$2500 per project.

Application periods: April 3rd – May 8th and August 3rd – September 10th. Opioid Settlement Funds: In 2022 North Carolina signed on to a historic $26 billion settlement agreement to bring needed relief to communities suffering the effects of the over-prescription and marketing of opioids. Wilkes County is receiving over $23 million as its share of the settlement.

Payments commenced in 2022 and will be received by county government through 2038. The Health Foundation is working with Wilkes County Government to ensure the funds are distributed in accordance with the state guidelines while also addressing community priorities. Application period: January 6th – February 20th, 2026.

The Health Foundation, Inc. supports programs and services that improve the health and well-being of the people in our communities. Support is generally limited to non-profit organizations with tax exempt status or governmental entities. The Health Foundation does not fund organizations or programs that require participation in a particular religion in order to receive services.
