Program goal(s) name: Reduce death and injury for people who wander due to their condition. Program goal(s) description: This program provides funding to healthcare, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies to implement locative technologies that track missing individuals.

It also provides funding to such agencies and partnering nonprofit organizations to develop or operate programs to prevent wandering, increase safety for vulnerable individuals, and facilitate rescues. Program objective(s) name: Implement technology, training, and public education to improve outcomes for people who wander.

Program objective(s) description: Reduce wandering incidents and associated injuries through the implementation of local programs; Implement tracking technology that enables the safe recovery of individuals who wander; Enhance collaboration and training, leading to improved response times and outcomes for at-risk individuals; and Develop and implement public education and awareness campaigns that teach families, caregivers, teachers, and communities about the risks of wandering and effective strategies to keep individuals safe.

This program supports local efforts to reduce the number of deaths and injuries of individuals with forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, or developmental disabilities, such as autism, who, due to their condition, wander from safe environments.
