Grants - The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund $break-very-large: 1600px $break-medium-medium: 1024px iPad landscape / small laptop $break-medium-small: 800px Biodiversity, Nature & People ▲ Conservation Philanthropy ▲ Fonseca Leadership Program (GEF) Applications are currently closed Conservation Philanthropy The fund has been established to provide targeted grants for individual species conservation initiatives, recognize leaders in the field, and elevate the importance of species within the broader conservation debate.
Its focus is global, and eligibility for grants extends to all plant, animal, and fungi conservation efforts, without discrimination based on region or species. We receive a large number of applications during each funding round in March, June and October. The Fund forwards its recommendations to the independent Advisory Board for review.
Application dates and feedback can be expected as outlined below. Applications submitted by 31 January 2027 will receive a response in late April 2027. Applications submitted by 31 May 2027 will receive a response by end of September 2027.
All applications submitted by 15 October 2026 will receive a response by late December. Please note that the submission deadlines are inflexible, and that the dates for a response to applicants are estimates depending on the workload for the review process. The application deadline time is based on GMT.

The criteria are very comprehensive, however, for any topics not addressed in the criteria please consult the Frequently Asked Questions.
At this stage, you should have all the information needed to complete your application relating to a specific animal, plant, or fungi species. We support global initiatives, with a focus on critically endangered, endangered, and data-deficient species. If any wording or terminology in the application process is unclear, please consult our glossary for detailed explanations.
