Grantmaking - Mosaic Environmental Fund Our grants support collaborative infrastructure and shared resources essential to bridging divides and winning the big environmental victories needed in this critical decade and beyond.

Mosaic’s grantmaking focuses on addressing critical gaps in movement infrastructure so the environmental field can achieve its most urgent near-term priorities, both offensive and defensive, while building power to achieve large-scale progress by 2035.

Recognizing that progress is increasingly being driven at the state level, our investments focus on seeding, strengthening, and resourcing state-level coordinating infrastructure — cross-sector coalitions, networks, tables, and base building operations that bridge to new constituencies and facilitate coordinated action. We also support the linkages to local, regional, and national efforts needed gain, replicate, and scale wins.

Investments include: Narrative: Innovative models of narrative collaboration and online/offline skills and tools. Leadership: Skill-building & resources for diverse leaders to lead effective advocacy organizations, coalitions, and networks. Connection & Trust: Seeding, deepening, and expanding cross-sector relationships and collaboration within key states & across geographies.

Advocacy Tools & Training: Data platforms, advocacy tools, and training resources to amplify coalition work.

To maximize the impact of our investments while being responsive to the most salient field priorities, our movement infrastructure investments over the next three years will resource projects that build and strengthen groups’ collective capacity to advance a set of interconnected field-identified priorities, while building broad movement power across the full ecosystem.

These include: Maintaining & restoring clean air and water standards and systems Protecting public lands and waters/healthy ecosystems Driving clean energy adoption Halting new fossil fuel infrastructure Strengthening climate-resilient, healthy communities Mosaic conducts annual grantmaking cycles that include a mix of renewals, open calls, and selective grantmaking.

Each year’s focus is determined by our Leadership Council based on the most urgent needs in the field in alignment with our grantmaking strategy. Grant opportunities are typically announced in early spring, with grant decisions in summer. We do not accept solicitations outside of this process.

In 2026, Mosaic will not be hosting an open call for proposals as we focus on supporting current partners and investing by invitation in urgent infrastructure gaps. Mosaic’s grantmaking is informed by insights from our open grant opportunities as well as insights from grantees, funders, and other leaders across the field.
