NASA 2025-26 FRC Grants opened today - Fundraising - Chief Delphi NASA 2025-26 FRC Grants opened today September 1, 2025, 9:51pm NASA Robotics Alliance Project announced the parameters for this year’s FRC grants: September 1, 2025, 11:33pm Yet another grant for rookies (and select 2nd year teams). The continued desire and funding to expand FRC as the thousands of existing team graves behind us grows year over year.
3736 teams existed in 2025 347 were rookies. This means 3389 teams were “veterans”, 3528 teams existed in 2024 so 139 or 4% of teams in 2024 didn’t make it to 2025. We are still only at our 2018-2019 numbers of total registration despite some large international growth.
I would rather have grant money that’s going to 9% rookie growth which is getting cut down 5% total growth start being diverted to help with sustainability. My team started a new team but because some of our members and mentors will be a part of it, the team was assigned a non rookie number, could that team apply for this grand?
September 2, 2025, 3:26pm That’s generally classed as a “New Veteran”. It’s been a while but memory seems to tell me that New Veteran teams are generally not eligible for rookie grants, but that can vary. That would be worth an ask.
If a veteran team were to start a new team with under a certain threshold of veteran students and mentors, that new team would be a Rookie and fully eligible for all the rookie stuff. September 2, 2025, 3:35pm Here’s a link to the rules for “new veteran” teams as opposed to veteran or rookie teams.
FIRST has been refining this for the past couple seasons, but currently there are some ways in which a new veteran team is treated like a rookie team and others treated like a veteran team.
Currently, new veteran teams are eligible for rookie grants September 2, 2025, 3:41pm I think that resources should be directed to building infrastructure so teams have a place to play year-round and so that less-resourced teams can get assistance so they don’t fail. Some places have a very high rate of team failure after 2-3 years.
