NASA Technology Commercialization Grant NASA Technology Commercialization Grant The Hampton Economic Development Authority created the NASA Langley Research Center Technology Commercialization Grant to stimulate technology transfer, commercialization opportunities and new business creation tied to NASA Langley Research Center.
The EDA has since broadened this opportunity to pertain to all NASA technology, regardless of the center at which it was developed.
Eligible applicants must meet the following qualifications: Have a Hampton address at the time of application that is located in a Hampton Enterprise Zone or active work to establish a location in a Hampton Enterprise Zone at which, if awarded, the grant funds would be utilized; Either have (a) commenced either a Licensing Application or a Space Act Agreement (SAA) with any NASA location, (b) been awarded a SBIR/STTR contract with any NASA facility, or (c) a current or former civil servant employed with NASA seeking to commercialize aerospace technologies similar to those developed at NASA who is the majority owner of the business.
Eligible Grant Expenditures Applicants must demonstrate the company is seeking to commercialize or enhance technology. This may be accomplished through an award of SAA or SBIR/STTR, patents, awarded contracts, collaborative testing, experimentation or formal connections with NASA.
Examples of eligible grant expenditures include, but are not limited to, the following: Hiring Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) Raw materials and inventories State/Federal Matching Grant Program Application Fees. (Applicants may be denied if the committee determines other programs can provide such services or similar grants.) Grants can be awarded in amounts from $1,000 to a maximum of $50,000.
To be considered, every applicant must complete the necessary grant application . The application will be first reviewed by staff, which may include an outside technical advisor. Grant amount requests up to $5,000 will be designated as “Mini Grants” and will be eligible for a streamlined process only requiring approval from the Loan & Grant Committee.
Grants exceeding $5,000 will require approval by the full EDA Board.
