DDOT has developed a deployment plan to ensure all District residents and visitors access to Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), intends to establish a nationwide network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that aim to support access and reliability for all users. The District will receive $16.
7 million dollars over five years for Direct Current (DC) fast charging stations to be installed along federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. To receive funds, DDOT submitted the deployment plan to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) describing the department's goals and intentions to use NEVI funds.
The deployment plan contains sections on charging infrastructure deployment, existing and future infrastructure conditions, contracting, implementation, program evaluation, documentation of state agency coordination, stakeholder outreach, and most importantly, public engagement and equity.
Overall, the plan addresses connectivity and the deployment of EV charging placement along with the Interstate System, AFCs, and equitable station placement across all Wards.
