August 3, 2026, 8:00 pm EDT Express Health Information Outreach Award The purpose of the Express Health Information Outreach Award is to provide support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of consumers, caregivers, students, and other members of the public to find, access, and use health information.
Funds can also be used to improve healthcare professionals’ access to, awareness of, and skills for locating high-quality biomedical and health information.

Funding is provided to individuals interested in attending professional seminars, conferences, and other continuing education opportunities in areas of data science or health information access/delivery and to build professional capacity in support of the goals of the NNLM. These awards are offered throughout the year with the expectation of a short timeline. Individuals may only be awarded once per five-year performance cycle.

NNLM’s main goals are to work through libraries and other members to support a highly trained workforce for biomedical and health information resources and data, improve health literacy through access to information. April 1, 2025, 11:59 am EDT NNLM Region 3 Student Development Award The goal of this program is to introduce the future LIS workforce to the health sciences, trusted National Library of Medicine (NLM) resources, and develop their professional skills. Awardees will attend the Annual Meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA), October 24-29, 2025 in Little Rock, AR.
Additionally, with coaching from a talented NNLM professional, each awardee will deliver a 20-minute (approximate) virtual presentation on an NLM resource or NNLM priority in December 2025 as part of an online webinar series hosted by NNLM Region 3 (Health Bytes with Region 3). Awardees may have additional opportunities if applicable.

October 9, 2025, 8:00 pm EDT Professional Development Award, Year 5 The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5, under cooperative agreement with the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), announces the availability of funding through Professional Development Awards to increase knowledge, skills and competencies of NNLM network members on areas related to NLM priorities.
Eligible States: Alaska, American Samoa, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Washington Period of Performance: September 15, 2025 - April 30, 2026 Additional Information: Eligibility Generally, 501(c)(3) organizations, as well as local, county, or state funded entities, are eligible for funding from NNLM Region 5. Applicants must be from an institution that is a member of NNLM Region 5.
Membership is free and open to institutions interested in improving access to health information. Only one award per Network member organization will be made during the current grant year. Awards will be available on an ongoing basis until funds are depleted.
