Grants - PA Native Plant Society PNPS Central Pennsylvania Native Plant Festival Plant Information and Landscaping Legislation and Model Ordinances PNPS Annual Meeting Archives Propagating Native Landscapes - 2017 Annual Meeting One Yard at a Time and the 2016 PNPS Annual Meeting Native Plant Organizations Conservation and Other Organizations Gardens, Arboreta and Nature Centers Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Part of the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society’s mission is to encourage other volunteer organizations, individuals, or groups, who believe in the benefits of planting native plants and the important part these species play in our environment.
The Pennsylvania Native Plant Society (PNPS) Annual Grant Program supports projects that advance the conservation, study, and appreciation of native plants and native plant habitats across Pennsylvania. Grants are awarded annually through a competitive application process. We give small grants to groups working on projects focused on outreach, education, and research related to native plants.
Student winners receive their financial award immediately after decisions are made. The other categories are reimbursed after submitting receipts, reports, and photographs of project installation. You must be a PNPS member to submit a grant application.
Grant Application Timeline Applications open: January 15 Applications close: February 15 Grant recipients announced: March 1 Award acceptance deadline: March 15 Applications must be submitted in full by the deadline to be considered.
All applicants must submit a complete application package that includes: Active PNPS membership (students exempt) Project timeline within the grant year Signed and dated landowner permission letter (if applicable) Letter of support from an academic mentor (student projects only) All projects must use 100% Pennsylvania native plant species , with at least 70% straight species (limited cultivars).
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Native Plant Habitat Restoration & Creation - Supports the installation or restoration of native plant gardens or woodlands. Project areas must be located in publicly accessible spaces.
Application form Student-Led Native Plant Projects - Open to students or student groups of all ages. Projects may include research on native plants or habitats that support native species, or student-led efforts to install native plants. Application Form Community Art for Native Plants (New for 2026) - Supports artists using creative methods to demonstrate the importance of native plants.
Applicants may include individual artists, artist collectives, educators, or community organizations collaborating with artists. Projects may include public murals, sculptures, art events, workshops, or other public-facing artistic displays. Application Form Landowner Permission Form Previous recipients of a PNPS Annual Grant are required to wait two years after receiving funding before applying again.
Grant awards typically range from $500 to $1,500 , with a maximum award of $1,500 per project . Funds may be used for Pennsylvania native plant materials, supplies, and project-specific educational expenses. Funds may not be used for salaries, overhead, or non-native plant materials.
Reporting & Accountability Grant recipients are required to submit project updates during the grant year and a final report by September 1. Failure to meet reporting requirements may result in ineligibility for future PNPS funding. PNPS received over 50 grant applications in 2025, a new record for our grant program.
The PNPS Board ranked these requests based on their alignment with the PNPS mission and has awarded a total of $7,738 to seven projects across the state. Grant amounts varied and were based on grantee budgeted requests. Congratulations to the recipients which are listed below.
