NOAA Announces Funding Opportunity to Advance Coastal Flood Protection - NCCOS - National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science NOAA Announces Funding Opportunity to Advance Coastal Flood Protection Coastal Change , Natural and Nature-based Features , Sea Level Rise High-tide or “nuisance” flooding on the Virginia coast.
Credit: Aileen Devlin / Virginia Sea Grant The NCCOS Competitive Research Program (CRP) is pleased to announce a Notice of Funding Opportunity: Advancing coastal flood protection through public-private partnerships, innovative insurance products, and improved sediment management.
CRP is soliciting proposals for projects that will support state-of-the-art information and products to advance the use of natural infrastructure for coastal flood protection. This funding opportunity seeks to support research teams that include regional users to ensure practical, efficient, and cost-effective cross-sector implementation that advances long-term flood and storm preparedness capacity that is led by states and localities.
The goal is to empower state and local preparedness through informing flood and storm community planning, flood mitigation projects, infrastructure prioritization, and storm response and recovery with scientifically sound, risk-informed solutions.
By advancing predictive flood models and tools in collaboration with coastal decision-makers to assess how various flood management actions will perform, NOAA can provide coastal decision-makers with information that will help improve safety and reduce damages and economic losses from coastal flooding and inundation. Funding is contingent upon the availability of Federal appropriations.
NCCOS CRP expects to fund one to six projects for up to four years in duration, with an approximate annual budget for each project up to $500,000, not to exceed $2,000,000 per project. Letters of intent are due by November 9, 2026. Full applications are due February 12, 2027.
