New England Chapter of the SFPE - Application Membership Levels and Benefits Corporate Sponsorship Program Fire Service Grant Application Through the Fire Service Grant Program, fire departments in the New England region can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts.
In keeping with SFPE’s mission, the goal of this program is to advance the use of science and technology, as well as promote educational efforts. Applicants must be a governmental unit of a city, town, county, state, commonwealth or fire district in the New England region (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont) that supports fire prevention. Note that funds must be used for public purposes.
Funding requests will be considered to help support organizations working to combat fire for a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts. Here are some examples to use as a guide: Prefire planning (computer software programs, laptops, etc.) Fire prevention and suppression education/training (community outreach initiatives, workshops, publications, Student Awareness of Fire Education (S. A.
F. E.) programs, etc.) Arson prevention/fire investigation (juvenile firesetter programs, continuing education courses, digital and specialized cameras, accelerant detection equipment) WHAT CAN I NOT APPLY FOR?
Funding requests for salaries, motor–powered vehicles (fire apparatus, automobiles), and building projects, for example, may not be considered. Applications that clearly demonstrate a need for funding whose use will have a significant impact on preventing and fighting fire loss are acceptable. It is important to provide detail and documentation in the application to support the request.
Although there is no limit on how much funding you can apply for, this grant program is designed to provide seed money to help support your fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts. In years past, fire departments have received grants ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
All grant applications are reviewed by a committee consisting of members of the Executive Board of the New England Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Fire Service Grant applications are available starting in October and completed applications must be submitted by January 31, 2026.
