C. fund to help next generation of farmers grow businesses New farmers in British Columbia can now apply to the New Entrant Farm Business Accelerator Program, offered by the Government of B. C.
, to develop or update their farm business plans for growing their operations. The aim of this program is to encourage income growth, commercial viability and financial sustainability. Supported by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), farmers eligible for this program can also apply for funding to implement their plans and strategies – coming in spring 2026.
Farmers are eligible if they have reported farm income to the Canada Revenue Agency for five years or less, or have not reported any farm income previously. Previous recipients of the funding were able to increase farm income and productivity. Louise Lecouffe and Jed Wiebe at Elderberry Grove Farm in Salmon Arm were able to build a larger on-site facility with funding.
This new facility provides them with better storage and processing space to enable them to offer more elderberry products. Cowichan Station Creamery, owned by Henry Rekers and Renee Davy, in Duncan purchased hay feeders with funding to reduce hay-waste losses in the operation’s dairy cow feeding systems, helping to increase efficiency and productivity. Applications are open November 3 to 24, 2025.
