Welcome to the New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program (NJ STEP). Whether you are a small business new to exporting or you are already selling goods and services to other countries, you may be eligible for a Federal award through the New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program (NJ STEP).
The STEP Grant is funded in part through a grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and administered by the New Jersey Business Action Center’s Office of Export Promotion! The Office of Export Promotion has been supporting small businesses in their exporting endeavors for twelve (12) consecutive years!
The Office has advised and assisted thousands of businesses, supporting millions of dollars in export sales around the world and bringing tens of thousands of jobs back to New Jersey. The New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program (NJ STEP) is a stepping stone grant to assist small businesses for long term sustainable success. This grant provides financial awards on a first come, first served, competitive basis.
Both new to exporting and existing exporters that are qualified and eligible may be able to receive financial assistance in several allowable activities. The financial assistance is a reimbursement incentive What Activities Are Covered By The Grant?
Eligible businesses for the New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program (NJ STEP) will be considered to receive financial awards to partially offset export promotion costs such as: U.S. Department of Commerce Subscription Services Website / SEO / Localization International Marketing Media Design Export Training Workshops 95% of the world’s potential consumers are outside of the United States!

For NJ STEP consideration, your business must be: Registered in, and domestic to, New Jersey NJ Business Registration Certificate Look-Up New Businesses - Register Your Business Small as defined by the SBA In business for at least one (1) year Manufacturing goods (or producing services) containing at least 51% U.S. content Know your NAICS code ( Find Your NAICS Code ) Have an Employer Identification Number ( EIN ) Have a Unique Entity Identification (UEI) number ( Obtain a UEI Number ) Complete and submit a client intake form to the NJ STEP Project Director to confirm eligibility prior to receiving an application.
A staff member of the Office of Export Promotion will review your intake form and respond to discuss your company and the next steps. NJ STEP uses an electronic platform for applications, the link will be sent upon approval of eligibility from our talented advocates. The New Jersey State Trade Expansion Program is funded in part through a grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration and in accordance with Section 632 of Public Law 117-328, New Jersey’s total STEP program cost is $533,333. 00 of which 75% is Federal Share of $400,000 and Non-Federal Share of $133,333.
