865 Part 2. Full Text of Announcement Section I. Funding Opportunity Description IC and NIH Office Interest Areas and Specific Requirements: The Trans-NIH Music and Health Working group has identified many areas of interests for their individual ICs and believe that coordinated reviews will be the best means to benefit their missions.
Because applications will be assigned to participating ICs before review, it is important that applicants are able to link their proposed studies to the mission and specific requirements of the participating ICs. Applications proposing clinical trials should be within the guidelines of the NIH and the sponsoring institute.
Investigators are strongly encouraged to contact the program staff (listed at the end of this FOA) for the sponsoring institute during the development of their proposal and submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a complete application. Applications that propose research outside of the specific requirements of the sponsoring institute will not be supported.
The following research topics are considered the highest priorities for music & health applications to NICHD, although they may not be exhaustive of all topics of interest to NICHD. If you wish to submit an application focusing on a topic outside of this list, you are strongly advised to contact the named NICHD Scientific Contact for acceptance by NICHD before writing and submitting your application.
Applications reviewed but deemed of lower priority to NICHD will likely not be considered for funding under this FOA. Basic and/or clinical research of the mechanisms by which music might/does shape long-term developmental neurobiologic and neurophysiologic features of the brain, cognition, and behavior at any age, beginning prenatally through age of 12 yrs.
Clinical research to test and evaluate the benefit, dosing, and durability of music therapy and related therapeutic devices to reduce the risk for or progression of developmental disorders and/or improve the health of pregnant and lactating women including, or not, their offspring; preterm infants; children; and people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
Identify the benefits of and optimal time periods, dosing, and duration of music interventions alone or in combination with/for rehabilitation intervention(s) after critical illness or trauma/traumatic injury in children and young adults or in the context of intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disability. All other aspects of the FOA remain unchanged.
