NIPSCO Hardship Program

NIPSCO Hardship Program is sponsored by NIPSCO. NIPSCO provides energy assistance funds for natural gas customers in Indiana who fall between 151-250 percent of the Federal Income Level. Funds are available through local Community Action Agencies.

To find out which programs could apply to you, start with our eligibility calculator. Please note, income may not be the only requirement to receive funds through these programs. Finding and applying for energy assistance can be confusing and even overwhelming.

Visit our resource center if you need more information about available programs or eligibility. Energy Assistance Program (EAP) You may be eligible to receive assistance to help pay your NIPSCO bill from the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) if your household income is at or below 60% of State Median Income (SMI).

EAP is federally funded and implemented through participating local agencies in each county under the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).

Program runs October 1, 2025 - April 20, 2026 Customer Assistance for Residential Energy (CARE) Program The NIPSCO Customer Assistance for Residential Energy Program (CARE) is implemented through participating local agencies in each county under the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). The CARE program offers additional savings on your energy bill if you use natural gas for heating in your home.

Based on specific criteria, eligible LIHEAP (EAP) customers are automatically enrolled in CARE, which reduces your bill from 15 to 32 percent depending on your income. Application period opens October 1, 2026, Save the Date energy assistance funds for natural gas customers who fall between 151-250 percent of the Federal Income Level.

Hardship funds are available through many of the same local Community Action Agencies where EAP funds are distributed. Program Closed - Application period opens October 1, 2026, Save the Date Your township trustee may be able to provide individual bill assistance from annual tax revenues.

Supply Energy Resources to Veterans (SERV) is an income-eligible assistance program that offers a one-time benefit to our active military and eligible veteran customers in need of financial assistance with gas residential utility charges.

Program Closed - Application period opens October 1, 2026, Save the Date Seniors in Indiana Low-income & Vulnerable Energy Resource (SILVER) is an income-eligible assistance program that offers a one-time benefit to our senior citizen customers 60 years of age or older who need financial assistance with gas residential utility charges.
