html The National Library of Medicine (NLM) offers support for research and development projects in biomedical informatics and data science. NLM defines biomedical informatics as the science of optimal organization, management, presentation and utilization of information relevant to medicine and biology.
The informatics projects of interest to NLM involve the application of computer and information sciences to information problems in a biomedical domain. For additional information about areas of interest to NLM and a listing of NLM funded applications, please visit //www. nlm.

NLM’s SBIR/STTR grant programs are focused on areas of particular interest from small business. The following narrative indicates the scope of projects suitable for the SBIR/STTR program that fit within the mission of NLM. They are not listed in priority order.
Visualization approaches or techniques for complex biomedical data at multiple levels Artificial Intelligence techniques for characterizing and minimizing the impact of errors, incompleteness, missingness, within health-related data sets Novel platforms, technologies, tools, and techniques for: (1) integration of patient data collected from multiple devices and clinical studies and (2) integration of large heterogeneous biomedical data resources Technological approaches to protect biomedical data confidentiality during storage and sharing Development of new, innovative tools and methods for annotating, curating, and managing biomedical data resources Tools to enhance security of biomedical data, including personal health data Novel methods to facilitate real-time decision-making in clinical practice and public health, using personal health data in electronic records or clinical trials Tools, technologies and other strategies to track disease outbreaks, epidemics, pandemics Tools and technologies for understanding and predicting climate and environmental effects on human health January 5, April 5, September 5 each year Full listing of deadlines for competing applications: //www.

NCI Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Academic Career Excellence (ACE) Award (K32) is a grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that funds early postdoctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented groups, to pursue research training in cancer-related fields. The K32 award supports fellows within 12 months prior to transitioning into, or within the first two years of, a postdoctoral position. The program, operated through NCI's Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD), aims to enhance the pool of qualified diverse cancer researchers. Beginning with the June 12, 2025 due date, the CURE ACE Award is available in both Independent Clinical Trial Required and Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed versions. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at time of award.
Smart Health and Biomedical Research in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Data Science (SCH) is sponsored by National Science Foundation (NSF) & National Institutes of Health (NIH). This interagency program supports high-risk, high-reward advances in AI and data science for biomedical and public health research. Projects must cross disciplinary boundaries.
PAR-26-042 funds NLM-priority clinical informatics R01 grants up to $250,000 in direct costs per year through March 6, 2029, with standard NIH cycles on October 5, February 5, and June 5. The notice explicitly defines non-responsive applications: incremental tool improvements, projects primarily focused on social determinants of health, and projects primarily focused on ethical/legal/social issues.
